This week’s note is a trip down memory lane. I’m going to share with you a report I wrote 10 years ago titled 8 Link Building Methods to Avoid. July 20, 2012 was the first time I shared this. It was just a few months after Google had unleashed the first iteration of Penguin.
For some of you who were on my original email list all the way back then, you may have seen this. Back then, this was the link magnet I used for email signups.
I was cleaning out some old files and came across it. As I read it, I was struck by just how well this held up and how it could still be useful to someone even today.
I still love the quote I used at the bottom of each page.
If your primary concern in SEO is Google’s ever changing algorithm, you are doing it wrong.
I’m sharing it in its original form, unedited, complete with awful graphics and my terrible hand drawn arrows (that a friend still makes fun of to this day). That also includes a few broken links. Sorry.
