July 2012 – Brouwerij Corsendonk Pater / Abbey Brown Ale

This is one of the better beers I have tried this year. I have to admit, I had never heard of this one. Went to a local pizza shop to pick up a pizza and decided to have a look through their beer selection. This particular shop has a bar attached to it and has a decent selection of beers. This happened to be the only thing in their cooler that I had never had before, so I grabbed a 4-pack, and I am definitely glad that I did.

This is a dubbel. It’s got a little kick at 7.50% ABV, but not as strong as some other dubbel’s I’ve had in the past. It smells of caramalized malts, Belgian yeast, dark fruits, and only a slight aroma of hops. When you drink it you will notice a brown sugar and dark malts taste right away. That gives way to a bit of banana and spices with a little bit of hops on the finish.

This is a highly drinkable brew. I cannot recommend it enough. If you are looking for a beer to convert your hop-head friends to the more malty side of beer, this is an excellent selection.
