Three Philosopher’s is what is known as a Quadruple. They are typically darker in color, deep red or brown most often and are quite strong and bold in flavor. They are sweet with little bitterness, but a pronounced alcohol taste.
Three Philosopher’s pours a dark amber color with a rich thick head. There is a aroma of dark cherries and the flavor follows suit. Although the alcohol content is high in this one at 9.80% ABV, but it is surprisingly well hidden. Upfront, it will almost have the feel of a wine, but as you finish it there is no mistaking the beer flavor. There is also a noticeable clove flavor that will hit on the back end.
This is a sipping beer. It’s not one you are going to polish down on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn. However, it went great with our Easter meal yesterday.
